Hardik Pandya’s possible Rs 15 crore move back to Mumbai Indians creates IPL buzz

In a major trading development ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, India’s T20I captain Hardik Pandya is reportedly in talks to make a comeback to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans in a speculated all-cash deal of Rs 15 crore.

While Mumbai Indians have not commented on the situation, clarity on the potential move is expected on November 26, the closing day for IPL’s trading window.

Pandya, who plated seven seasons with Mumbai Indians before being released in 2022, led Gujarat Titans to consecutive IPL finals, securing the trophy in their debut season.

As IPL source tracking developments in Gujarat Titans confirmed ongoing talks, stating, “Yes, I can confirm that there have been talks of Hardik going to MI. There remains a chance that he might switch sides, but at this moment, nothing more can be confirmed as the deal is yet to be signed.”

The intricacies of the potential trade remain uncertain, as it is unclear which player, if any, might move from Mumbai Indians to Gujarat Titans in exchange for Pandya. There is speculation about the fate of Mumbai Indians’ Rs 8 crore mega buy Jofra Archer, who has faced injuries in the last two seasons.

The IPL Governing Council’s decision to increase the purse by an additional Rs 5 crore means Mumbai Indians enter the mini-auction with Rs 5.50 crore, unless they release some big buys to bolster their reserve money.

If Pandya’s move to Mumbai Indians materializes, the question arises whether he will be appointed captain, potentially playing under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, who has led the team to five IPL trophies and has been in prime form.
