Reserve Day added for India vs. Pakistan match of Asia Cup in case of rain

In anticipation of potential rain disruptions, a reserve day has been added for Super-4 stage match between India and Pakistan in Asia Cup.

New Delhi: In anticipation of potential rain disruptions, a reserve day has been added for the much-anticipated Super-4 stage match between India and arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing 2023 Asia Cup. The clash between these cricketing giants is scheduled to take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on September 10.

This decision follows a no-result situation during their group-stage encounter earlier this month when heavy rain prevented any play in the second innings.

According to an announcement by the Asian Cricket Council, the reserve day for the India-Pakistan Super-4 match has been set for September 11. This contingency plan ensures that the match will continue from where it left off on September 10 in case rain interferes with Sunday’s proceedings.

The Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast for Colombo raises concerns, as thunderstorms are highly likely, with rain probabilities ranging from 60% to 100%. The temperature is expected to range between 76°F to 88°F, accompanied by southwest winds at 5 to 10 mph. Additionally, high humidity levels are expected, posing further challenges for the players.

The scheduling for this stage of the tournament appears tight, with only a one-day gap between the India-Pakistan match, the Sri Lanka-India encounter, and the Sri Lanka-Pakistan clash. Furthermore, a two-day gap separates the final Super Four match and the grand final set for September 17.
