R Ashwin creates history, surpasses Kumble’s record to take maximum wickets in Tests

In recent news, star Indian pacer R Ashwin has created history by taking maximum wickets in Tests at home. It is noteworthy mentioning that Ashwin took his 351st Test wicket at home. With this, he has managed to surpass the long-standing record of legendary cricketer Anil Kumble.

Notably, this feather to Ashwin’s hat was added during the post lunch session on Day 3 of India vs England 4th Test. The 4th India vs England Test is currently taking place at the JSCA International Complex in Ranchi.

Further, R Ashwin has also managed to become the fifth bowler to take more than 350 Test wickets at home. The four players ahead of him are namely, Muttiah Muralitharan, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and Anil Kumble.

  • Muttiah Muralitharan: 493 wickets in 73 Tests
  • James Anderson: 434 wickets in 105 Tests
  • Stuart Broad: 398 wickets in 98 Tests
  • Ravichandran Ashwin: 351 wickets in 59 Tests
  • Anil Kumble: 350 wickets in 63 Tests

In earlier news, the veteran Indian pacer R Ashwin also emerged as the fastest Indian and the second fastest globally to clinch 500 wickets in Test Cricket. The feat was achieved during the third test of India vs England at Rajkot.

In other news, Dhruv Jurel smashed a terrific 90 under pressure, also his first fifty in the format, as India made 307 in their first innings, with England taking a slender 46-run lead at lunch on day three of the fourth Test at the JSCA International Stadium on Sunday.

India began day three with 134 runs behind, but Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav (28 off 131 balls) shared a crucial 76-run stand for the eighth wicket to help the hosts fight back in the match. Though Kuldeep later became James Anderson’s 698th Test scalp, Jurel, playing just his second Test, survived a caught-out chance on 59 to be the top-scorer in India’s innings.
