Odisha CM congratulates Indian men’s hockey team for Olympic Test event victory

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday congratulated after their thumping victory over New Zealand at the finals of the Olympic Test Event in Tokyo.

“Congratulations Indian Hockey Team for their stellar show and thumping 5-0 win over New Zealand in Olympic Test Event final. Wishing the team all the best for future events”, the Chief Minister tweeted.

The Indian Men’s Hockey team defeated New Zealand 5-0 to win the Olympic Test event today.

Captain Harmanpreet Singh, Shamsher Singh, Nilakanta Sharma, Gursahibjit Singh and Mandeep Singh scored one goal each for India at the Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.

The Indian team didn’t allow New Zealand to break through their defence throughout the match. India’s attacking approach in the match paid off as they walked off the pitch as winners of the competition.

India had lost 1-2 to New Zealand earlier in round-robin league-stage.

Indian women’s hockey team also secured its place in the final. They played out a goal-less draw against China in the third and last round-robin match yesterday.
