Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams enter finals of Olympic Test Event

Tokyo: The Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams on Tuesday entered their respective Final of the Olympic Test Event.

The Indian Men’s Hockey team booked their place in the Final after defeating Japan 6-3 in their third match of the tournament held here at the Oi Hockey Stadium.

Mandeep Singh (9′, 29′, 30′), Nilakanta Sharma (3′), Nilam Sanjeep Xess (7′) and Gurjant Singh (41′) scored for India, while Kentaro Fukuda (25′), Kenta Tanaka (36′) and Kazuma Murata (52′) scored the goals for Japan.

The win put India in the second spot in the points table. They will face toppers New Zealand in the summit clash tomorrow.

The Indian Women’s Hockey team today put in a tough shift to secure their place in the Final of the Olympic Test Event as they played out a 0-0 draw against World No. 11 China here at the Oi Hockey Stadium.

With a tally of five points from their three matches, Indian eves topped the points table, and will now face hosts and World No. 14 Japan in the final tomorrow.
