Sub Registrar and Section Officer arrested in DA cases

The Odisha Vigilance today arrested two public servants on charges of possessing disproportionate assets (DA) to their known sources of incomes.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance today arrested two public servants on charges of possessing disproportionate assets (DA) to their known sources of incomes. They have been identified as Saswat Kumar Pattanaik, the District Sub Registrar of Nayagarh and Subhakanta Swain, the Section Officer of the Office of the Chief Engineer, Minor Irrigation in Bhubaneswar.

Saswat Kumar Pattanaik came in the radar of the Vigilance officials while he was taking bribe following which Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No.36 dated 14.12.2023 was registered against him under the section of 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b) P.C. Amendment Act, 2018.

During a search operation, he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 79% in excess of his known sources of income. Due to which he was arrested and forwarded to the court.

Likewise, Subhakanta Swain, was banned while he was taking a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant for processing the application of his brother and issuance of a contractor license. Later, a case was registered against him at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station under Section 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Besides, simultaneous raids were carried out on the locations linked to him from the disproportionate asset (DA) angle.

The anti-corruption team also recovered Rs 14,990 from his office drawer and Rs 5,500 from his possession.
