STF seizes over 4 kg brown sugar in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: In a major drug haul, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch seized over four kilos of brown sugar from Nayagarh district late on Monday night.

Reportedly, the drugs have been seized from a rented house at Nayagarh PWD Lane.

Acting on a tip-off, the STF team conducted a raid at the rented house and seized the huge quantity of brown sugar along with Rs 65 lakh cash, cash counting machine sealing machine, mobile, Aadhar Card, ATM card, PAN card, 3 pistols along with 43 unexploded ordnance from the spot. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth over Rs 4 crore.

One of the accused, identified as K.Vicky Rao has been arrested while the main accused Shiba Prasad Behera has escaped from the spot, informed Crime Branch ADG Sanjeeb Panda. A manhunt has been initiated to nab the main smuggler.

It is noteworthy that, the Commissionerate Police had launched operation “white spider” to nab the drug peddlers.

The commissionerate police on August 16 launched operation ‘White Spider’ to check the drug menace in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha. The police will target the entire chain including the suppliers, dealers, and peddlers engaged in the drugs trade.

All police stations had been sensitized regarding this drive. Members of the Special Squad along with the Quick Action Team (QAT) will carry out the operation.

The Commissionerate Police has also launched a dedicated WhatsApp number – 7077798111 and sought public cooperation to check the contraband menace.
