Sambalpur violence: Internet services resumed after 10 days

Sambalpur: The internet services has resumed in Odisha’s Sambalpur town on Sunday after a hiatus of 10 days since Hanuman Jayanti violence. The overall situation in the town has improvement and the curfew hours have also been relaxed from 5 am to 8 pm.

The internet service came back to normal since 6am in the morning today. Now, the people of the area can use WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media apps.

The Sambalpur district administration suspended the internet services in the western Odisha town as a precautionary measure after a group clash during Hanuman Jayanti bike rally on April 13. The step was taken to prevent spread of inflammatory messages and fake messages amid the unrest. While broadband and leased line services were resumed for a limited time period of seven hours from 10 am to 5 pm, the suspension of mobile internet was extended till April 22.

Now peace has returned to Sambalpur city and the situation is under control. As a result, the government has lifted the internet restrictions. Similarly, the Sambalpur district administration has extended the curfew relaxation period by one more hour.

Meanwhile, the Odisha unit of the BJP has sought a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to unravel the alleged conspiracy behind the clash that occurred on April 12 and 14.
