Angul: The pollution levels in Angul seem to have crossed danger mark. The pollution has taken dangerous proportions, said reports. Talcher also seems to be facing the same situation. The Air Quality Index (AIQ) was at 352.

According to details, every year in winter the air of Angul is filled with toxic dust particles. Now Talcher is among the most polluted cities in the country. It has an Air Quality Index of 336, which falls in the very poor category.

Assam Guwahati is in the second place. It has an AQI of 317. Visakhapatnam has an AQI of 313. The air in these three places remains in worst category. Talcher, Kaniha and Chendipada blocks of Angul district are known for black diamonds. Due to extensive coal mining in this area, toxic dust particles are filling the atmosphere. During transportation, some of the coal cargos are not covered with roadbeds, so lumps are blown and mixed with the air.

Angul district also has several large steel factories. There are also thermal power plants and power generation projects. Thousands of trucks are plying these factories every day. Due to this, pollution is increasing in the atmosphere with toxic smoke and dust particles.
