Police demolishes drug peddler’s shop in Bhubaneswar

Commissionerate Police has reportedly demolished the shop of a drug peddler under Bharatpur Police station limits.

Bhubaneswar: As part of zero tolerance policy against drug dealing in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate Police has reportedly demolished the shop of a drug peddler under Bharatpur Police station limits.

After the members of the local Self-help Groups (SHGs) filed complaint, cops arrested one Rajat Nayak of Baramunda Mahvir Nagar slum for his involvement in drug business for the last 10 years.

However, Nayak came out of the jail on bail and continued his drug business by constructing a shop on the government land. Besides, he was involved in different crimes.

On being informed, a team of Bharatpur Police along with the enforcement team reached the spot with a bulldozer and demolished Nayak’s house amid tight security.

Police also warned that such action will be taken against those who take law into their hands and those who are involved in such criminal activities.

“We took action after people of the locality including the women and Corporator complained against him. They alleged that because of him the local youths were getting into different kinds of illegal activities after consuming drugs sold by him. Therefore, with the permission of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), we demolished his shop, which was constructed at government land,” informed Bibhuti Routray, the IIC of Bharatpur Police station.

“We also request the youth to refrain from such activities or else similar actions will be taken against them,” he warned.
