Odisha: Yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning issued for next 3 days

Different parts of Odisha are all set to witness thunderstorm with lightning for the next three days. For this, the meteorological centre here today has issued yellow warning.

Bhubaneswar: Different parts of Odisha are all set to witness thunderstorm with lightning for the next three days. For this, the meteorological centre here today has issued yellow warning.

According to the weather department, thunderstorm with lightning will occur from August 7 to August 9.

DAY-I: Valid up to 8.30 AM of 07.08.2023:

  • YELLOW WARNING: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Dhenkanal.

DAY-2: Valid from 8.30 AM of 07.08.2023 to 8.30 AM of 08.08.2023:

  • YELLOW WARNING: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapara.

DAY-3: Valid from 8.30 AM of 08.08.2023 to 8.30 AM of 09.08.2023:

  • YELLOW WARNING: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Khurda and Puri.

Meanwhile the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) issued the following advisory:

  • Districts under yellow warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.
  • Keep the field-level functionaries in strategic locations of flash flooding/ water logging alert & ready to meet any eventuality and should not leave headquarter.
  • In urban areas, low-lying areas may have water logging, and roads/drains may be submerged under water.
  • In case of very heavy rain, people of low-lying areas may be shifted to safer locations temporarily.
  • ULBs must keep the drains/storm water channels decongested, and adequate de-watering pumps may be deployed as per requirement.
  • Traffic /plying of vehicles on submerged roads are to be regulated.
  • People may be advised to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.
  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall recorded may be reported immediately to the office.
  • Submit report on damage, if occurred due to thunderstorm, whirlwind, hailstorm, lightning and heavy rainfall immediately for information of the Govt.
