Odisha: The monsoon season is in full swing in Odisha, with several districts experiencing heavy rainfall. Today, places like Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam, and more to witnessing continuous rain showers.

The southern region of the state, bordered by the Eastern Ghats, has been experiencing consistent rainfall for the past two days. These rains have been beneficial for the region as it has been drought-prone for a while. According to experts, if the current trend continues, there are chances of moderate to heavy rainfall till the 30th of this month.

In the state capital Bhubaneswar and nearby areas, irregular rainfall is expected during this period. The overall rainfall situation in the state remains favourable.

International meteorologist Jason Nicholas predicts that in the coming weeks or the first week of September, there might be a low-pressure area forming over the northern Bay of Bengal. This could further enhance the monsoon’s activity in the region.

Yesterday, The meteorological department issued a yellow warning for the seven districts of Odisha, which includes Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kendujhar, Angul, Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati to witness heavy rainfall.

So far this monsoon season, Odisha has received 773.5 mm of rainfall. This is slightly below the normal rainfall of 845.8 mm, representing a 9% deficit. It’s worth noting that rainfall patterns have been quite diverse across the state during this time.
