Odisha GRS’ salary hiked by Rs 2,000

GRSBhubaneswar: A day after the agitating Gram Rozgar Sevaks (GRS) were resorted to lathicharge by the police personnel here, the Government of Odisha on Saturday hiked their wages by Rs 2,000.

Odisha Panchayati Raj Minister Pradeep Maharathy announced the pay hike of the GRS today. With this move, the GRS will get a monthly salary of Rs 7,000 along with additional monetary incentives.

Hundreds of GRSs across the state had launched an agitation to press their charter of demands including increase of monthly salary and regularise of their post.

Significantly, BJP leader and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today extended his support to the agitating GRS for their pay hike.

The Sevaks were appointed by the state government on a contractual basis in 2006 to monitor the implementation of projects under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
