Bhubaneswar: In a latest development to the identity mix-up row after blast at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, the Odisha government has decided to conduct a thorough probe into the matter, informed the officials of the concerned hospital.

The state government has issued a notification to the hospital saying it would conduct an investigation to find out how the explosion took place at the hospital on December 29, 2023, informed Smita Padhi, the CEO of the hospital.

The government officials will also try to ascertain whether there were any lapses in treatment of the deceased persons and in safety measures, she added.

Meanwhile, samples were collected for the DNA tests of the family members of Dilip Samantray and Jyoti Ranjan Mallick. Samples for the DNA test were collected from the mother of Dilip and father of Jyoti Ranjan at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar to ascertain the identity of a body.

It is to be to be noted here that four persons were critically injured following an AC compressor explosion at the hospital on December 29. However, the hospital authorities claimed that one Dilip Samantray of Bang village in Harirajpur area in Puri district died while undergoing treatment on December 30.

The body was handed over to the family members, who also conducted his last rites as per the Hindu rituals. But sadly, Dilip’s seven month pregnant wife Sona Samantray also ended her life as she was unable to accept the news of her husband’s death.

However, a strange twist took place on Friday after one of the injured persons whom the hospital officials had believed to be Jyoti Ranjan Mallick of Bramhansailo in Kantapada block of Cuttack district claimed that he was actually Dilip Samantaray. His declaration had confused one and all and caused massive confusion.

Unfortunately, he too passed away while undergoing treatment on Saturday morning. Later, the family members of Jyoti Ranjan Mallick and Dilip Samantaray demanded the body. However, the body was sent for postmortem and preserved at AIIMS hospital for the DNA test. It will be handed over to the family members with whom the DNA test resembles, said sources.
