Odisha dips in ‘Holi’ fervour, celebrates the ‘festival of colours’ with gaiety

Bhubaneswar: People across the state dipped in colours as they celebrated ‘Holi’ which is predominantly known as the ‘festival of colours’. People from all walks of life took part in this spring festival irrespective of caste, creed, gender or age.

To start with the state capital Bhubaneswar the colour frenzy gripped denizens in the city with several organisations and group organizing separate events to mark ‘Holi’. However, people in large numbers were seen buying and using herbal colours in this year, which is considered good for skin without any side effect.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who decided to stay away from ‘Holi’ celebration this year as he is suffering from cold took to twitter and wished a bright festival of colours to the people of Odisha.

Similarly, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also wished a prosperous ‘Holi’ to the people of Odisha on his twitter handle.

Renowned academician Dr Achyuta Samanta wished all a very happy festival of colours on twitter on behalf of KISS.

Like the previous years around 27,000 tribal students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) took part in this spring-festival amid star packed cultural program which was held on its premise. Odia cine star Babusan, actress Shibani played Holi with the students in the institute. They had been accompanied by young Ollywood personalities like Jyoti Prakash, Jacqueline, Pupul, Aman, Sasmita, Tamanna, Twinkle Mishra, Aryan, Padmalaya, and comic actor Hadu and Banamali Pandia.

“I played the most special and responsible Holi of my life today at KISS. Holi remains a special festival for me since my childhood. I would thank Dr Achyuta Samanta for providing me with such a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Holi over here,” said Babusan in his reaction on KISS Holi.

Meanwhile, in an effort to put a noose around the harmful chemical colour vendors in the Twin City, the Commissionerate Police yesterday formed special team to conduct surprise checks. Steps are also being taken to make people aware to celebrate Holi in a safe manner.
