Odisha: Cyclone ‘Michaung’ likely to form over Bay of Bengal by December 1

By December 1, the system may take the form of a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal. It will be named as cyclone 'Michaung.'

Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area is currently active over the Andaman Sea. The system continues to advance in the North-West Western direction. Forecasts predict that it may develop into a well-marked low pressure today. It is likely to intensify into a depression over the South-eastern Bay of Bengal by tomorrow.

The depression may further intensify into a deep depression by November 30. By December 1, the system may take the form of a cyclonic storm. The possible path of the cyclone is towards the Myanmar coast. It will be named as cyclone ‘Michaung.’

On December 1, the wind speed near the center will be 60 to 70 kilometers per hour. However, the accurate impact of the cyclone over Bay of Bengal is yet to be estimated. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is yet to give predictions on the same.

Till now, no warning has been issued for Odisha in view of the possible cyclone ‘Michaung.’ Under the influence of Westerly winds, some areas across Odisha might experience slight rainfall. From November 29 to December 2, weather in Odisha is likely to remain dry. On December 3, some areas of coastal Odisha might experience minimal rainfall. Further predictions are awaited.
