Odisha: After Cuttack, Baliyatra cancelled in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Baliyatra in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha will not be held this year said reports on Sunday.

The Bhubaneswar Baliyatra will not be organized this year, informed Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash.

“No permission granted by the Commissionerate Police as no fair and yatra are allowed as per the November guidelines,” Dash said.

The historic Cuttack Baliyatra has also been canceled this year too. The Cuttack collector had informed that the decision of not holding the festival has been taken by the administration in view of the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

It is to be noted that, in the wake of Covid 19 pandemic and keeping in view the chances of spreading of the deadly Coronavirus the famous and historical Baliyatra of Odisha has been cancelled this year also. The district administration of Cuttack informed about it on Tuesday.

Since Baliyatra attracts huge number of people such a huge congregation of people during Covid times might lead to increase in infections. Hence the decision of not holding the annual fair has been taken, said Bhabani Shankar Chaini, the District Collector of Cuttack.

It is to be noted that last year also Baliyatra had been cancelled due to Covid 19 pandemic.

The historical Baliyatra is organised in Cuttack every year to mark the glorious past of commercial sea voyages from Odisha to the islands of Bali, Sumatra and Java that had enriched the State.
