No Covid restrictions during Odisha Municipal Election: SEC

Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commissioner, Aditya Prasad Padhi, on Monday informed that there will be no Covid restrictions during the upcoming Odisha Municipal Elections, 2022.

He added that later some restrictions might be imposed depending upon the Covid situation across the State.

Reportedly, the election will be held in 1,899 wards. As many as 42 lakh people will cast their votes in 4475 booths.

The first step for Odisha Municipal Elections of filing of nomination papers will come to an end today. The eligible candidates have been filing the nomination papers since March 2.

The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on March 9, 2022 following which the candidates can withdraw their nomination by 3 pm of March 14, 2022.

The voting for Councillor and Corporator posts will be held through Electronic voting machines (EVM) in the upcoming Municipal Elections. Each booth will be provided with two EVMs. There will be one EVM for the posts of Councillor and Corporator while another for Mayor and Chairperson.

Adding to it, there will be three strong rooms for EVMs under CCTV surveillance. Each booth will have one presiding officer and four pooling officers. There presiding officers and polling officers who will be in charge of municipal elections can cast their vote on ballot papers, provided they belong to the same region where they are posted for poll duty, added SEC Padhi.
