Nilagiri Sarpanch detained for murder charges in Odisha’s Balasore district

Balasore: The sarpanch of Nilagiri Panchayat in Odisha’s Balasore district has been detained for murder charges of a youth. The accused sarpanch has been identified as Pradip Khalapalia.

According to sources, a youth, identified as Basant Patulia, was beaten to death by some miscreants. Following the demise of the youth, the father and brother of the deceased have alleged that the Sarpanch and his aide murdered him.

As per the complaint filed by the deceased’s father, the accused called Basant to his residence on Friday night following which Basant went to meet him. After some time, Pradip called Basant’s younger brother and informed him that Basant got injured in a road accident and had been admitted to the hospital. After receiving information about it, Basant’s family rushed to the Nilagiri hospital, where they found him dead.

Based on the complaint, Nilagiri police have detained the sarpanch and have initiated a probe into the matter.
