New guidelines have been issued for school buses in Odisha by the State Transport Authority, said reports on Wednesday.

Bhubaneswar: New guidelines have been issued for school buses in Odisha by the State Transport Authority, said reliable reports on Wednesday. The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation has issued a few essential guidelines with regards to the school buses in Odisha.

They have said that the school buses shall be fitted with grills on both the front and the rear end. It has also been specified that the buses shall without fail be fitted with a fire fighting equipment and a first aid kit.

Further it is worth mentioning that, all the windows of the busses should be reinforced with iron grills. A speed regulator needs to be fitted in the bus so that it cannot be driven at a speed higher than 50 kilometers per hour.

Reports said that, it is binding for the school buses in Odisha to clearly state the name of the school and the contact number of the school on the outer body. The door of the bus should be capable of being locked properly.

The driver should have a valid driving licence and an experience of five years in driving heavy vehicles, said the notice by the STA clearly. It shall be essential for the driver and the conductor to wear uniforms without fail and for the school authorities to make sure that this rules should be followed.

Further, there shall be a space between the two seats of the bus to store the school bags, said reliable reports. A proper fitness certificate should be there in the bus and a route chart should be affixed in the bus. Further details awaited in this regard.
