Miscreant opens fire at woman over sorcery suspicion in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: In yet another case of sorcery-related attack, a woman sustained critical injuries after being shot at by a person over witchcraft suspicion in Talakbadi village under Bisoi police limits in Mayurbhanj district last night.

The victim identified as Maeen Hembram (42) was rushed to hospital post the incident.

As per the report, a nephew of Maeen identified as Thalkhan Hembram had died of a deceased a year ago. Since then Thalkhan’s family was suspecting Maeen’s role in the death by believing that she was practising witchcraft.

Last night, Rupai Majhi, a relative of the dead minor reached Maeen’s house while she was sleeping and opened fire at her with a motive to kill. Maeen, who sustained bullet injury on her head in the attack, was immediately rushed to Mayurbhanj District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.

Police have arrested the accused from his house post the incident and started investigation into the incident.
