Man sentenced to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping minor in Cuttack district
A man has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping minor in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
Cuttack: A man has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping minor in Tigiria police limits of Odisha’s Cuttack district.
According to reports, the incident occurred 6th February, 201, when the man, identified as, Akshay Kumar Nayak kidnapped a 16-year-old minor and later raped her. The minor victim was rescued after 11 days from Badambadi area by police.
Following the conviction, the Cuttack POCSO court sentenced the accused to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000. The imprisonment will be extended for further 6 months in default in submission of fine.
The sentence was based on 21 witnesses and 16 pieces of evidence. The court has also ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the minor.
