Low pressure over Bay of Bengal to cause heavy rainfall in Odisha for next 2 days

Several regions across Odisha are to experience heavy rainfall within the next 48 hours. Rainfall is likely to decrease from September 5.

Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal today. As a result of which, several regions across Odisha are likely to experience heavy to very rainfall within the next 48 hours. Coastal regions of the state are expected to experience very heavy rainfall.

The regional meteorological department has issued a yellow warning to 14 districts in view of heavy rainfall today. Forecasts predict that all interior districts of Odisha are to experience heavy rainfall on September 4. Similarly, the Southern Odisha is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 5. Alerts to the districts have been issued accordingly.

Rainfall in the state is likely to decrease from September 5.

On Saturday, Bhubaneswar faced a severe cyclonic storm with continuous lightning. Bhubaneswar recorded a rainfall of 126 mm. Heavy rainfall continued to lash the state for about two hours. The unprecedented situation brought life to a standstill. Residents were left in panic-stricken and terrified.

The potential rains due to the low pressure are expected to add some relief to the rainfall deficient conditions in Odisha. Due to the deficit in rainfall in the month of August, several regions across the state have faced drought-like conditions.
