Lawyers launch 3-day strike in Sambalpur over permanent HC bench demand

Sambalpur: Court work came to a complete halt in Sambalpur today following a three-day strike called by Kuchinda lawyers’ association in demand for establishment of a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in Western Odisha.

The strike which was supported by western Odisha Nagarika Kriyanusthan Committee witnessed picketing by its members outside the district court premise and prevented judges to join work starting from the morning.

Similarly, all government and private offices along with bank and insurance offices were also remained closed due to the bandh.

However, essential services along with education institutes were kept out of the purview of the bandh.

Notably, alleging apathy of government in taking up the issue of permanent High Court bench in Sambalpur the lawyers had earlier warned to keep all government and private offices in the area closed for last three days of the month till their demands are met.
