Jajpur man sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in minor girl rape case
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court in Jajpur sentenced a 57-year-old man to 20 years imprisonment for raping a five-year-old girl.
Jajpur: The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court in Jajpur sentenced a 57-year-old man to 20 years imprisonment for raping a five-year-old girl.
Based on the statements of seven eyewitnesses, the court found him, Prafulla Panda, guilty and sentenced him to the to 20 years imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on him. He will remain in the jail for six more months if fails to pay the fine.
The court also directed the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAS) to pay a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the minor rape survivor.
It is to be noted here that Panda of Jajpur police station area reportedly raped the girl in 2021 by giving her the false promise to drop her at her house.
Police had started an investigation into the matter based on the complaint filed by the girl’s family members and forwarded Panda to the court after arresting him.
