Five arrested for killing Army man brutally in Odisha’s Ganjam district

Ganjam district police today arrested as many as five persons for their involvement in the brutal attack on an Indian Army man on December 3, which led to his death.

Bhubaneswar: Ganjam district police today arrested as many as five persons for their involvement in the brutal attack on an Indian Army man on December 3, which led to his death.

Informing about the development, Ganjam Superintendent of Police (SP) Jagmohan Meena said that the accused persons – J. Kalyani Patra, CH Sekhar and B. Cheneya of Kalipalli village and B. Bulu Patra and CH Biki Kumar Patra of Nimakhandi – were arrested by the Chamakhandi police and forwarded to the court after their medical examination.

Notably, the army jawan identified as Dileshwar Patra of Kalipalli village in the district had come to the village on a leave. On December 3, along with his friends he had gone to watch a cricket match in Gopalpur area. However, he had a heated argument with some youths during the match over some unknown reason.

Later, some miscreants attacked Dileshwar near Haripur Square while he was returning home after the cricket match. He was rushed to a hospital in Berhampur in a critical condition. Later, he was shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment.

Police had launched a probe after registering a case over the crime and arrested the accused persons today.
