International Yoga Day-2018 celebrated across world

New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar: People of different age group and walks of life observed the International Yoga Day-2018 across the world today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led an estimated 50, 000 volunteers at the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun and performed various asanas to mark the fourth anniversary of International Yoga Day.

Addressing on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that Yoga acted as a force in unifying the world.

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu along with several Union Ministers also hosted part of similar events at different cities of the country.

In Odisha too, people observed the day at different parks and fields. Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik also created a sculpture to honour the day.

Keeping this year’s theme – “Yoga for Peace” – in the mind, Pattnaik created with the sand sculpture with a message – “yoga for peace and harmony.”

The 20-feet-tall sculpture features Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other world leaders like President of America Donald Trump, China President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“I’ve shown world’s top leaders like US President, Chinese President, Russian President, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Hon PM Narendra Modi with their country flags to appeal the World leaders to unite and work for World Peace through Yoga,” said Sudarsan.

Proposed by Modi at the United Nations General Assembly 2014, June 21 was officially declared the International Day of Yoga by the UN that year. Since then, every year on June 21, people around the world come together to practice various yoga asanas (postures) and pranayamas (breathing exercises).
