New Delhi: The Union government on Tuesday said that room rents in hospitals will be exempted from the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) issued a clarification on imposition of GST on tariff for various accommodation services and stated that tax on rooms in the hotel, guest house or inns will be payable on the actual amount charged and not on published tariff.
GST is not applicable on room tariffs of less than Rs 1000. GST of 12% will be levied on a tariff of more than Rs 1000 and less than Rs 2500. GST ; 18% GST will be 18% for room rents between Rs 2500 to Rs 7500 and 28% for room tariff greater than Rs 7500.
