Gold seized at Bhubaneswar Airport again

Bhubaneswar: The officers of Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at BPI Airport, Bhubaneswar thwarted yet another attempt of smuggling of gold through Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) on Saturday.

Acting on spot intelligence, officers of Air Intelligence Unit intercepted one passenger of Indian origin, hailing from Mohali (Punjab), who arrived from Bangkok by Air India flight AI-339 today.

Search of his body and personnel baggage led to recovery of one Punjabi Type gold Kada and one gold chain of foreign origin, concealed by him, collectively weighing 249.350 grams and valued at Rs 7,91,686.

This is the second seizure of gold in three days effected by Customs at BPIA here. The Customs Department officials had on Thursday seized 355.120 grams gold worth over Rs 11 lakh from a passenger from Kozhikode (Kerala). He had arrived from Bangkok by Air India flight AI-339.
