Gas tanker overturns on NH 26 in Odisha’s Koraput; Traffic disrupted for several hours

Koraput : Amid the lockdown  due to the Coronavirus pandemic, a gas tanker carrying around 17 tonnes of LPG gas overturned on the National Highway (NH) – 26 in Odisha’s Koraput district on Tuesday morning, disrupting  vehicular traffic on the NH for several hours.

The incident took place near the Kolab Chhak of the Deo Ghat on Koraput-Jeypore road when the tanker’s driver lost control of the vehicle, blocking a part of the highway.

The gas tanker was heading to Raipur in Chhattisgarh from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

The driver sustained minor injuries due to the mishap.

On being informed, local fire tenders and police personnel reached the spot and put the tanker back on the road with the help of cranes after hour-long effort.

Only emergency vehicles were allowed to ply on the road while several goods vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road for long hours. Traffic was restored at around 1 PM.
