Former BDO of Odisha’s Balangir district convicted in DA case; gets 2 years of imprisonment

The former-BDO of Agalpur block of Odisha’s Balangir district has been convicted in connection with DA case on Saturday.

Balangir: The former-Block Development Officer (BDO) of Agalpur block of Odisha’s Balangir district has been convicted in connection with Disproportionate Assets (DA) case on Saturday. The convict has been identified as Sylvanus Lakra, retired BDO of Agalpur Block.

The Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir has sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and fine of Rs.5 Lakhs. The court has further said that in default of payment of fine to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 5 months more.

In December 2023, 16 cases have ended in conviction till date. Odisha Vigilance has taken a number of steps to strengthen prosecution.

Trials in 21 Vigilance Courts are being closely monitored by the Vigilance Directorate. Recently, 21 PLOs (Prosecution Liaison Officers) have been engaged. Further, 8 posts of expert Legal Consultants have been sanctioned by Government.
