EOW Arrests Man On Charges Of Cheating Through Skill Development

Bhubaneswar: Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of state Crime Branch today arrested the managing director of a Bhubaneswar based private institute for allegedly cheating several NGOs through various skill development programmes.

Police today arrested the accused identified as Sudhir Sahu (29), the managing director of Rudhitapa Institute of Technology and Management. Police said that Sahu was running the office of the institute from a rented house at Palasuni in Bhubaneswar.

“ Sahu induced many NGOs by claiming that his institute is recognised by various departments in union government and started collecting money from the NGOs. Sahu also promised the NGOs to pay six more of the initial amount submitted by the concerned NGOs after completion of training,” said a police official.

Further investigation revealed Sahu of cheating around Rs 62 lakh from 15 NGOs in Odisha. “We registered a case against Sahu in April after receiving a formal complaint from a Nayagarh based NGO. He has also cheated other NGOs in similar fashion and the total money misappropriated by Sahu is likely to cross Rs 1 crore,” added the police official.
