Brahmagiri: In a tragic incident, an Engineering student died after drowning in Baliharachandi-Sunamukhi river in Puri district this afternoon.
The deceased student has been identified as Rajendra Barik of Balisahi in Puri. He was a 4th year student of Electrical department of Biju Patnaik Institute of Technology, Moto.
According to reports, Barik had gone to the river to take bath along with his friends. Unfortunately, he slept into the deep water and drowned. His friends managed to rescue him in a critical condition and rushed him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The authorities of the institution, who were unaware of Barik’s death, arrived at the hospital after getting information.
The local police, meanwhile, have started a probe into the matter.
A pall of gloom descended on the area following the student’s death.
