Elderly man trampled to death by wild jumbo in Dhenkanal

Kamakhyanagar: In yet another case of human-animal conflict in the State, a wild jumbo trampled an elderly man to death in Godarbili village under Kamakhyanagar police limits in Dhenkanal district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Hrudanand Mallick (70) of the same locality.

As per the report, the victim had been to attend nature’s call to a field located on the outskirts of his village early this morning when the elephant attack took place. A tusker which had sneaked into the village in search of food last night pounced on him to trample to death on the spot.

After the news of Hrudanand’s death spread in the village, residents staged a protest and blocked the Dhenkanal-Kamakhyanagar main road demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased.

Forest officials have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
