Puri: The defective axles and spokes of Nandighosha, Taladhwaja and Darpadalan chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra respectively, were replaced at the chariot construction ground (Ratha Khala) here on Sunday.
Maharana servitors of all three chariots carried out the replacement work starting from the morning during which they changed the cracked axles (Akha) of Nandighosha and Taladhwaja chariots along with spokes (Pahi) of Darpadalana chariot.
The Maharana servitors cooperated in the work despite a running dispute with the Sri Jagannath Temple Adminstration (SJTA) over some payment issue. All three chief Maharana servitors have also resigned from the chariot construction committee due to the same reason.
Similarly, Maharana servitors also expressed their displeasure yesterday after the members of the chariot construction engineering committee inspected and detected defects in the chariot wheels. They claimed that the rights of inspection and replacement of defective parts of the chariots are limited to the Maharana servitors.
As all the technical snags have been sorted out, the wheels would be attached to the chariots on Monday as per the prevailing ritual at the temple.
Notably, the axle of Devi Subhadra’s chariot had broken just three days to Rath Yatra last year. However, it had been replaced by the Maharana servitors within four hours.
