Cyclone Fani: IIT Bhubaneswar Returns to Normalcy

Bhubaneswar: Restoration work has been completed in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar, IIT authorities said today. The institute has also made prior arrangements for all essential services on the campus.

As per the information by the IIT authorities Fani caused serious damages to civil and electrical infrastructure and vegetation including plantation while the 2km of boundary wall collapsed during the cyclone.

 “Though no casualties were reported inside the campus, 12 persons suffered minor injuries. Water supply and medical services were provided to the inmates of the campus including construction workers even during the cyclone. Electricity was supplied to the essential areas including hostels and quarters within 24 hours of the cyclone and the Internet services were restored on Tuesday,” said an Official.

Prof. R. V. Raja Kumar, Director of the Institute said that the damage caused by Fani to the institute is more than what was expected. “Our team of meteorology research headed by Prof. U.C. Mohanty, School of Earth, Ocean and Climate Sciences also predicted the course of Fani using a hybrid of their own models and prevailing models used in practice and predicted its course,” he said.
