Nabarangpur CongressNabarangpur: Taking ahead its fight for the cause of sanitation and hygiene in Nabarangpur town, the District Congress Committee (DCC) staged a road blockade on NH 26 here on Saturday. During the road blockade, the Congress workers were seen lifting the garbage left to rot besides the NH.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of Congress workers under the leadership of former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi marched in a rally through the Municipal Supermarket in the town and resorted to sloganeering against the Municipality for not taking any action to dispose of the garbage lying on the road side. Congress workers were also seen removing the garbage on their own and loading them unto the waste collection vehicles.

Majhi, along with Nabarangpur DCC president Munna Tripathy, were also seen lifting solid wastes on to the truck during the protest.

Informing on the road blockade, Majhi alleged that the waste management system in Nabarangpur town had collapsed completely due to the rampant corruption in Nabarangpur Municipality. He warned that the stir would be intensified in the coming days if the district administration failed to take action immediately.

Garbages would be loaded on to tractors by the Congress workers and dumped right before the Nabarangpur Collector’s residence if the issue is not sorted out on an urgent basis, he added.
