Koraput: A Class VI student of Koraput Jawahar Navodaya Vidayalaya (JNV) sustained injuries after getting tortured in the hands of a group of seniors in the school on Wednesday.

The minor student has been identified as Subhasish Rout (11).

As per a complaint filed by Subhasish’s father at the Koraput Town Police Station, a group of four Class 8 students of the school dragged him out of his hostel room on Tuesday night and thrashed brutally after taking him to the upper floor. The boy sustained critical injury in the attack.

The ragging came to fore after Subhasish narrated his ordeal before his family yesterday morning and the latter met the Principal of the school as well as the Hostel Superintendent.

“We decided upon lodging a police complaint after the Principal and the Hostel Superintendent refused to intervene into the matter,” said the victim’s father.

“We have received a complaint against four Class 8 students of JNV namely Jatin Pradhan, Rajendra Khara, Gurusikhya and Umesh. They have been accused of brutally torturing the Class 6 student. An investigation is underway and appropriate action would be taken against the guilty,” said Khireswar Sahoo, IIC Town Police Station.

Meanwhile, the injured student has been admitted to the SLN Medical College and Hospital for treatment and his condition is stable.
