BJD nominates Subashish Khuntia & Debashish Samantray to Rajya Sabha

Bhubaneswar: In a major development in Odisha politics, the State ruling party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today nominated Subashish Khuntia and Debashish Samantray to Rajya Sabha.

“Biju Janata Dal is nominating the following persons to the ensuing Rajya Sabha Election, 2024: 1. Shri Debashish Samantaray 2. Shri Subhasish Khuntia,” said a press release issued by party president Naveen Patnaik.

While Debashish Samantray is the former MLA of Barabati-Cuttack and was party’s district unit president of Cuttack, Subashish Khuntia is the vice president of Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD).

It is to be noted here that notification for the election of three Rajya Sabha seats have already issued by the Odisha Legislative Assembly as the terms of Ashwini Vaishnaw, Prashanta Nanda, and Amar Patnaik are set to end on April 3, 2024.

As per the notification, February 15 is the last date to file nomination papers. The scrutiny of papers will be held on February 16 and candidates can withdraw their candidature on or before February 20th. While the voting will be held between 9 AM and 4 PM on February 27, the results will be declared on the same day.

A total of 56 seats of Rajya Sabha from 15 states, including three from Odisha will go to polls on February 27, 2024.
