Bargarh: BJD candidate Rita Sahu, wife of late Congress MLA Subal Sahu, filed her nomination papers for the much awaited Bijepur by-poll on Monday.
Rita Sahu filed her nomination papers with the attorney general-cum-Padmapur Sub-Collector. She was accompanied by hundreds of her enthusiastic supporters.
BJD MP Prasanna Acharya, Ministers Prafulla Mallick, Susanta Singh, Niranjan Pujari, Snehangini Chhuria, MLAs Debesh Acharya, Sanjay Das Burma, Debi Prasad Mishra, Prashanta Nanda and other leaders of the party were present.
On the other hand, Pranay Sahu, whom the All India Congress Committee (AICC) picked yesterday for the by-election, will file his nomination papers tomorrow.
A six-member committee headed by former Chief Minister Hemananda Biswal had sent names of Pranay Sahu, party’s Vice Chairman of Gaisilet Block in Bargarh district, and former Bijepur MLA Ripunath Seth to the AICC. However, Congress President Rahul Gandhi selected Pranay.
BJP candidate Ashok Panigrahi had filed his nomination papers on February 2.
The Bijepur Assembly constituency will go to the by-election on February 24 while the results will be declared on February 28.
