All India Inter University Swimming and Yogasana Championship begins at KIIT University

The All India Inter University Swimming and Yogasana Championship began at Bhubaneswar-based KIIT University today.

Bhubaneswar: The All India Inter University Swimming and Yogasana Championship began at Bhubaneswar-based KIIT University today. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT and KISS, inaugurated the Championship being organised by Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Addressing the players, coaches and officials present at the opening ceremony, Samanta said the future of sports in India is bright as there is a growing interest among students to take up sports as a career.

Under the leadership of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the state government has always been promoting sports and sportspersons, he said adding that the extensive international sports infrastructure in KIIT and KISS is unique in the whole of India. The universities have earned the honour of training more than 5,000 national and international athletes, including 15 Olympians.

Various state, national and international level competitions are organized here throughout the year due to the extensive sports infrastructure of KIIT and KISS. This year, more than 150,000 athletes, coaches and official cane to KIIT and KISS and participated in various competitions.

More than 2,500 competitors from more than 200 universities and more than 300 coaches and officials are taking part in the yoga championship, while more than 1000 competitors from more than 100 universities and over 200 coaches and officials participated in the swimming championship.
