21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships: Sports Minister Visits Indoor Stadium

Cuttack: With two days left to go for the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, sports minister Tusharkanti Behera toady visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor stadium in Cuttack.

The minister reviewed the progress for the upcoming event with officials from different departments to ensure the smooth functioning of the six-day tournament.

“Elaborate arrangements have been made to host the visiting teams and make the event a great success. Odisha has made its mark in the sports arena of the country and this event will definitely strengthen the reputation of the state ,” said Behera.

A total of 16 countries namely Australia, Bangladesh, Cyprus, England, Ghana, Guyana, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Wales will battle it for the coveted team and singles titles.

This will be the seventh time that India would be playing hosts, the most popular destination for the championships, with Singapore and Scotland following India, having organized the event on three occasions.

India first staged the event in 1982 in Bombay, Hyderabad (1994), New Delhi (2001), Jaipur (2007), New Delhi (2013) and Surat (2015).
