15 injured as bus rams into roadside tree in Ganjam district

Berhampur: At least 15 passengers were injured after the bus on which they were traveling rammed into roadside tree in Ganjam district today.

The bus accident took place near G.Nuagaon Chhak under Belaguntha police station limits of the district while it was going to Budaguda from Bhanjanagar.

A team of cops from the Belaguntha police station along with fire fighters carried out the rescue operation with the help of the local villagers and admitted the injured passengers at Bhanjanagar for treatment.

While under what circumstance the accident occurred is yet to be known, passengers alleged that the driver was driving in an inebriated state and was driving the bus at high speed.

Speaking about the bus accident, Ashok Kumar Swin, one of the injured passengers who was going to Mentapur village, said, “After crossing a hump on the road, the driver increased the speed of the bus. Everyone in the bus pleaded him to drive slowly. However, he did not pay heed to anyone and further increased the speed. After sometime, he lost control over the vehicle and hit a roadside signage following which it got uprooted. Soon, the bus ramped on a roadside tree. As we cried for help, the locals rescued us by breaking the window glasses.”

Earlier in the day, a biker was killed after being hit by a bus at Buduli village under Bhanjanagar police limits of the district. The deceased was identified as Debadutta Dalbehera, a resident of Nidhipalli village.
