Siddaganga Mutt seer Shivakumara Swami dies at 111; 3-day mourning in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Renowned Lingayat seer of Tumakuru-based Siddaganga Mutt, Dr. Shivakumara Swamiji died on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 111.

 “The seer left for the heavenly abode leaving his mortal body at 11.44 am,” announced the Siddaganga Education Society founded by the seer.

Following his death, the Karnataka government has announced a public holiday on Tuesday. All education institutions including schools and colleges, government offices, banks and insurance companies across the State will not function tomorrow. 

A three-day State mourning has also been declared, where the national and the State flags will be at half mast.

According to the Mutt website, the highly revered swamiji was born on April 1, 1908 in Veerapura village in Karnataka.

The seer, popularly known as ‘Nadedaaduva Devaru’ (Walking God), was also the head of Siddaganga Education Society, which runs about 125 educational institutions in the state.
