Second day of farmers’ protest in New Delhi

Thousands march to Parliament, security concerns crop up. They are demanding a three-week long Parliament session as well as passage of two private members bill.

New Delhi: Farmers from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh convened yesterday at Ram Lila Grounds, New Delhi. They arrived in all modes possible, through the bus, train and also private vehicles. Over 50 women from Telangana traveled for over 30 hours by train and walked with photos of their fathers, husbands, sons and other family members, all who had committed suicide.

Ram Lila Grounds burst with slogans such as “Ayodhya nahi, Karz mafi chahiye”(We need loan waiver and not Ayodhya). They will march from the grounds to Parliament. This is the third time in three months that they have come together for a rally for same old demands. They have been demanding passage of two private members bill for higher minimum support price (MSP) of grains and complete loan waiver. The farmers have banded under the banner of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC).

With the presence of about one lakh farmers protesting in the capital here, the security has been beefed up. At least 3,500 police personnel have been deployed by the Delhi Police.
