No Wheel-chair, 80-year-old dies at Mumbai airport after being forced to walk

Mumbai: In a very unfortunate incident, an 80-year-old man died after walking at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport due to unavailability of wheel-chair, informed Air India.

The incident took place on February 12, 2024.

Reports say, the deceased has been identified as a native of Mumbai with a US passport. The couple had pre-booked the wheelchair facility. They were travelling in economy class of Air India flight AI-116 on Sunday, which was scheduled to land at 11.30 am on Minday but was delayed till 2.10 pm.

The statement released by Air India read, the man along with his wife was travelling from New-York to Mumbai and suddenly he fell ill while proceeding to clear immigration with his wife , who was in a wheelchair. Due to heavy demand for wheel-chairs, we had requested the passenger to wait till he was provided with wheel-chair assistance but he opted to walk. As advised by the airport director attending to him after falling ill, the passenger was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was declared to have passed away.
