NCRB reports claim over 13 lakh girls went missing from India in 2 years; Odisha stands fourth in list

New Delhi: National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reports has claimed that more than 13 lakh girls have gone missing from Indian between 2019 and 2021.

A large number of these women are found to be from Madhya Pradesh. West Bengal is second, while Odisha stands fourth in the list.

According to the Union Home Ministry report, between 2019 and 2021, 10,61,648 women above the age of 18 and 2,51,430 girls below this age have gone missing. In Madhya Pradesh, 1, 60, 180 and 38,234 girls have gone missing in these two years. 1,56,905 women and 36,306 girls are missing in West Bengal. In Maharashtra, 1,78,400 women are missing and 13, 303 girls are missing.

In Odisha, 70,222 women and 16,649 girls have gone missing in these 2 years. 49,116 women and 10,817 girls are missing in Chhattisgarh.

Following the issue of reports, the government has said that many steps have been taken for the safety of women in the country. Such as the Prevention of Sexual Offenses Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2013. Apart from this, under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2018, the convict of rape of a girl below the age of 12 years will get death penalty.
