Lok Sabha approves President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir for 6 months
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Friday approved the statutory resolution to extend President’s rule in Jammu & Kashmir for a further period of 6 months with effect from 3rd July 2019.
Home Minister Amit Shah moved the resolution and the bill related to Jammu and Kashmir. The Minister told the Lower House that Assembly elections would be held by the end of the year.
The Lok Sabha also passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019. The Bill proposes to give reservation in educational institutions and government jobs to people living within 10 kilometres of the International Border in Jammu area.
The Bill will replace the Ordinance promulgated in this regard.
However, Opposition leaders protested against Shah’s decision to club the matter of Quota Bill with the resolution on extending the President’s Rule in the state.
