JD(S)-Congress Coalition Loses Trust Vote

Banglore: The JD(S)-Congress coalition government in Karnataka today lost the trust vote in the state assembly. The BJP won 105 votes while the JD(S)-Congress could only manage to win  99 votes in the trust vote that took place after a dragging debate that featured several speakers.

In the 225-member Karnataka Assembly, 20 were not present in the House for the floor test. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy signed his resignation letter in his chamber minutes after the trust vote in the presence of his cabinet and has sought the appointment of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala.

As soon as Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar announced the trust vote result in the Karnataka Assembly, BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa flashed victory sign inside the house.

The BJP is likely to stake claim to power in Karnataka. Once the BJP stakes its claim, the governor may ask the party to form government in Karnataka. Governor Vajubhai Vala may ask the BJP to produce proof to have a majority in the 225-member assembly.
