Jammu & Kashmir: One militant killed in Sopore Encounter

Sopore: A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed in an encounter in Baramulla’s Sopore on early Wednesday.

The gunfight started on early Wednesday between the security forces and hiding militants in Sopore area, police said.

The encounter started after security forces comprising special operations group of state police (SOG) and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) surrounded the Gund Brath area on the town outskirts. The security forces were acting based on a tip-off regarding militant presence. The area had been cordoned off previously.

“One body has been recovered so far from the encounter site,” said the police. Preliminary reports suggest that the slain militant is a local.

The authorities have suspended mobile services in Sopore region after the encounter.
